I use cakewalk but keep finding the word "cubase" on the site. can anybody summarise the fundamental differences between the two programs. I would love to create midi's myself but lack a starting point.

if you're only comparing the 2 programs for their midi abilities, both programs are about the same, but cakewalk is more user friendly IMHO.

Cakewalk is the primary version. Cubase is for more proffessional use

I actually use both, cake for easy midi editing and then into cubase for the full audio side of the track.

I have never used Cubase ... of which there are many forms Cubasic etc ... but Cakewalk does have some audio capabilities too ..

I've been using Sonar (cakewalk) for a while now. I haven't found anything that Cubase does better yet.

Cubase is too difficult, but have some exciting futures
