The Vanbasco player, or any other MIDI player doesn't care.
They are the same format. Just different file extensions.

Well, in fact there is a minor difference between the .mid and the .kar files.

In .mid files, the lyrics are saved as meta event FF 05, which is ment to store lyrics in midifiles.

In .kar files, the lyrics are saved as meta event FF 01, which are actually ordinary text events in the midifile. This format has additionally some simple rules concerning information in the file header (language info, etc..).

But basically, both formats are the same: midifiles with lyrics data.

Kind regards,
Alain

Not all programs will open a file with the .kar extension but most will open a .mid file

Does anyone know how to get st3 files to play? I found some older Thai language karaoke files but they only come as st3. I think RealOrche is an old product and might not be supported anymore.

midi is musical instrument digital interface thats what you use to plug your keyboard(piano) etc into your computer. mid is just what the files are saved as.
If this is wrong just correct me or just plain ignore

Peace and love

I've seen them called both, but midi seems to come up most.

i don't know if i'm the only one, but i've had the most success with KAR files.....i guess i like the syncronised lyrics...i don't know. The quality has always been there too

I like to call them midi files when downloading and
mid when playing them.
