Hey,

I'm a 13 year old drummer who got his drum set like 9 months ago. I guess I could say I'm pretty good (but I'm probably not GREAT.) Is it Ok if I play the set with a right-handed setup, but play the hi-hat with my left and snare with my right? My Crash is on the right side and my Ride is on my left by the hi-hat.

Is that Ok? Or should I correct this problem?

Yeah im a lefty, and thats how i play cos i was tought on a right-handed set up kit, its totally fine I think, unless u want to learn how to play the opposite way on an actual left handed set up, which would take some getting used to if you have been playing a while

There's no set way to play, Scarlet! Set them up the way you feel comfortable, the way that allows you the easiest flow.

yeah.. im getting used to crossing my arms over although the chorus to one of my songs is too ahrd crossing over..

my ride is in "proper" position along with my crash.

there is hope.. but I am self taught for almost 11 months. I have thought of lessons, but I seem to always forget about signing up.

have you thought of moving the ride to the left, above the hi-hats ??

maybe experiment a bit

I always thought it looked cool to do it the way you are, it looks more open or something..

yeah thats what i used to do before, but I'm trying to learn to play in different set-ups so it wont matter in the future.

Your comfort is more important than technique. There is no "Right" way to play, but there is a right sound.

...you can't get the right technique if comfort is lacking
