Up for a little mental gymnastics?

Question: A generous man returns from market with a small bag of tomatoes. To the first person he meets he gives half of his tomatoes plus 1/2 of a tomato. To the second person he meets he gives person he meets he gives half of his tomatoes plus 1/2 of a tomato. To the third person he again gives person he meets he gives half of his tomatoes plus 1/2 of a tomato. He looks into the bag to find he has no more tomatoes. How many did he have when he left the market? http://www.midizone.info/midizone/images/smilies/0tomato.gif

Daddy= 48 yrs.
The children = 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, & 26 yrs.

D'oh! those were far too easy ... I need a really good one. ;)

Another warm up:

Find 4 numbers, the sum of which is 45, so that if 2 is added to the first number, 2 is subtracted from the second number, the third is multiplied by 2, and the fourth is divided by two, then the 4 numbers produced are all the same.

Easy one:

How can you throw a ball so that it goes a short distance, comes to a total stop, reverses its motion, and then goes the opposite way. You are not allowed to bounce it against anything, hit it with anything, or tie it to anything.

Throw it in the air so it will be travelling in an upward direction then stop and travell in a downward direction.

Not great at these but does anyone which cheese is made backwards?

This one's fun... reminds me of Black_Kats meanderings!

Logical Nonsense:
•All, who neither dance on tight ropes nor eat monkey cracker lamps, are old.
•Sock Monkeys that are liable to giddiness are treated with respect.
•A wise balloonist takes an umbrella with him.
•No one ought to lunch in public who looks ridiculous and eats monkey cracker lamps.
•Young creatures who go up in balloons are liable to giddiness.
•Fat creatures who look ridiculous may lunch in public if they do not dance on tight-ropes.
•No wise creatures dance on tight-ropes if they are liable to giddiness.
•A sock monkey looks ridiculous carrying an umbrella.
•All, who do not dance on tight-ropes and who are treated with respect, are fat.

•Therefore, no wise young sock monkeys...

that's a VERY cool way to do it - but not the answer in mind... the #'s after the "=" sign on each should be all the same...

here's a simple one...

George makes the following proposition to Mike:

"I will let you flip a coin 20 times. Each time the coin lands
on heads, I will give you $2.00. However, each time the coin
lands on tails, you must give me $3.00."

Mike flips the coin 20 times and the end result is that no money
is to change hands.

How many times did the coin land on heads?

Here's another fun and not as difficult as my other one... (I'll post the answer later...)

Black_Kat and Sk8er both have some money.
Because it is a hot day,
they decide to buy an ice cream for each of them.
But then they realize they both don't have enough money.
Black_Kat needs 24 cents more for her ice cream,
and Sk8er needs two cents more to buy one.
Now they decide to buy one ice cream together,
but still they don't have enough money to do so!

What does one ice cream cost?

jeaniesing
03-17-2004, 02:57 AM
I'm thinkin' sk8's in possession of 23˘ and my dear daughter left the house with a mere penny.... 24˘ isn't enough for a 25˘ ice cream?

And I printed out your other to work on it when I wasn;t starin g at the glowy and distracting computer... but then I used the flip side to makes lists for school..... and now I have to start all over....!

Hi, I almost forgot about this one.

Here's one:
You've got a sheet of paper(or cloth or whatever) 16 x 9 units. It's area is 144. Now without wasting ANY paper, and just cutting it once how can you make it into a sheet of paper 12 x 12?

BK, actually you cut it at right angles. eg.

_ _ _
|......|
|......|
|......|
|___|

you cut the paper like this:

_ _ _
|...._|
|.._|.|
|_|...|
|___|

And join the edges.
