Here are some possible samples:

1. Whereas I've kent Si for untold eons, haven't we all met him in each and every knave, rapscallion, or natty lad who chanced to dive one's cly (http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/8017/cant.txt). And while it may be hard to give up the Abbess's doxies, he's sure to find good cheer in his new mot... (£2)

2. Our man Si, what can one say? So much less the churl than before he met dear Sarah; with such positive change in such a short time, imagine the state of things in a few decades... (£4)

3. Si, alas, I've known him well. While we friends will mourn his passing into the next phase of his existence, we will remember him warmly as a sometimes fun guy; though lacking a sense of humour, he still managed to make us smile, even in ways other than his frequent involuntary micturitions... (£5)

4. While an entirely more pleasant stretch than the latent transvestitism stint from a few years back, Si's "going steady" and "engagement" stages have progressed remarkably well, all things being considered... Special this week: (£2.50)

5. Some call him friend. Some call him gracious. Some even say he's good-looking. Some say he's thoughtful. Some say he's shy. Some think him kind. Some find him astute. Some think him diplomatic. Some people are mad... Clearance: (£0.95)

;)

I'll have to give it some thought...

I think a combination of numbers 3 and 5 would be great... ;)

jeaniesing

But the knowledge that hiring Zel for a ... ummm ... a speaking engagement... would be so economical...?!?!?

What will £10 buy me?!? :smart:

Well, I'm sure we could consider a discount for such a dear friend... provided liberties might be taken with regard to the specific content that might be covered in each speech. Thusly, any positive character references might be charged by the occurrence at, say, £5 per truth and £250 per untruth (one must hold one's scruples, after all). Does that meet more with your expectations? ;) ;)

If you're uncomfortable with the payment arrangements, I'm sure we can make do with some sort of anonymous PayPal account, a Swiss bank account, a cashier's cheque to an anonymous Indonesian petroleum interest on whose board we serve (tax deductable), or cash exchanged by various well-disguised intermediaries. You are the customer after all, and we but seek your pleasure in the matter. :D :-p

someone mention an exchange of monies......I have a few contacts that may facillitate the exchange with discretion and expediency thus allowing the contract to procede without the hindrance of arguments and the need to send "the boys" around for collection of a late payment....

Paypal would work. Send me the details. Any chance of interest free credit? Or buy now, pay in 6 months time? :p

Pol

* Ching ching * Pol taps recently drained brandy glass for everyones attention.

Firstly thanks to all you Midibuddies for attending this thread this evening. Si nearly didn’t make it as he was ‘engaged at Her Majesty’s pleasure’, but we had a whip-round for the bail money and so here he sits proudly alongside Sarah. So what can I say to you all about this big, hairy, beer-swilling, 5 kebab eating monster that you don’t already know ?…but enough about Sarah for the moment ;).
People have asked me how did these two meet !….well I asked Sarah herself earlier today about her first impressions etc and she told me “I first met Si in the local pub of a Wednesday night after the bingo….i arrived in with the girls and there he was standing at the bar. Underneath the long greasy hair, was a face which sported a pimply malevolence which suggested a deep-seated fondness for making obscene phone calls, and when he smiled, there was something in the way he licked his his lips with his almost foot long tongue which would make any self respecting Komodo dragon take a step back. He had long slender fingers of the sort one normally associates with hands that spend a lot of time around the necks of small furry animals and in other peoples pockets. He was obviously part of that evolutionary line that leads from rats to wolverines and eventually to Cornishmen. I was in love !” :boink:.
Now if you ask me, that was a little harsh, especially the ‘wolverine’ thing, but who am I to dispute love at first sight. For Si’s part, he tells me he never saw Sarah that night due to the copious amounts of Babycham shandys he’d consumed, and so he staggered home and promptly fell asleep in the bath tub. It was a month later when he first laid eyes on her while still under four times the legal driving limit. He told me “Me and 3 of the boys were walking down the main street having just mugged a granny five minutes earlier….we had fought valiantly but she thrashed us to within an inch of our lives and so we were lucky to be here at all. Then I saw Sarah for the first time….there she was, a vision standing there in the moonlight all dressed in black….doing bouncer on Pizza Hut “. Their eyes met and the rest is history and here we are today. I think myself that Si sees marriage as being very similar to his beloved soccer-he’s totally committed, wants to score every Saturday, change ends at half time, and play away half the year. Trouble is, Sarah is predicting a very serious groin injury if he does. In the course of my speech so far, I may have led you to think that Si is some sort of depraved wannabe mugger with the intelligence of a semi-mature pondweed and a fondness for drink that would put Oliver Reed in the ha’penny place….but you’d only be half right !. He has a sensitive side too and seems to have reformed since he became a ‘Prodigal Uncle’. In finishing, I’d like to say that it’s been a privilege being Si’s ‘Midibuddy best man’ and also to take this opportunity to wish you both a great life together and many happy years ahead.

Cheers Bud !

Si

It has been bad being away so long, a mixture of busyness (?) and dire lack of funds :(

Felida
04-19-2004, 11:06 AM
Thanks Pol, *hugs*

I have been cold, and starving in a garret, well not quite but have been desperately short of funds, and coping with a house move to Devon. Lovely old house. However, we moved in January and renovations which were supposed to have happened had not !

Sooo, we spent the last 3 months, without a kitchen, without heating, without some ceilings and without some floors, without some plumbing on odd days as well ! No carpets, and unable to unpack because of builders chaos all around, it was a nightmare. Still the majopr parts are finished now, and the carpet layers are coming on Friday. Most of the floorboards have been replaced, and we can now walk without fear of plummetting through the downstairs ceiling.

Some of the time we spent without certain windows and outside doors (most of that time coincided with the first snowfall and the coldest part of the year) as they were being replaced.

Perhaps I ought to stop now, thinking back on it I am surprised I survived at all, being a hothouse flower ! *LOL*

Yes !! My fingers were too cold to type, well all of me was, there was only the kitchen that had any form of heating in the shape of an ancient raeburn stove (oil fired, which thankfully heated the water for baths and washing .. that is on the days it wasn't awaiting servicing !!) But worse, we spent half the daytime without electricity so no power .. the evenings weren't too bad when the builders left they patched an electricity supply up for us and we huddled in the only habitable room watching TV and risking burning the house down with a blazing fire in the big old inglenook fireplace !

lol, since its your second time and ur kinda making a mockery of the whole 'death do us part bit' its all about the emphasis on words like - "OK THIS TIME I swear to love YOU till death do us part etc..........(and always add in) unless I change my mind, mmkay" - that last part u can quickly mumble under ur breath so noone hears , or just say it in ur head - its a good safety clause. Yep, I think ur good to go bud

any chance aof posting ur speech maybe we could all help u with it

hmmmm - I sense some jealousy may arise in our little triangle... any countries where a threesome can be mutually hitched?!

Ok, here it is - not saying I'll keep to it ver batim :

Ladies and Gentlemen, ah who says flattery doesn’t work?!

Sarah and I would like to thank you all for coming and sharing in our special day. Thank you for your good wishes and generosity too – they are very much appreciated by both of us.

I’d like to thank Pete for his toast and more importantly for his daughter’s hand. Before I proposed to Sarah, I thought it right to be traditional so I asked Pete and Pat’s permission. Pete replied “What took you so long?” And Pat said “Why are you asking me?” before immediately going off on a tangent about something else! If I didn’t know it before, I certainly knew then that I had been welcomed into the Ibbotson clan. Thank you both for all the help with the wedding.

I can’t describe the emotion I felt (well not in polite company) when I first saw Sarah in her Wedding Dress. You’d all agree that she looks absolutely stunning. I’m the happiest and luckiest man alive.

Now I understand that some of you may not have heard how the two of us met. I tell you, it’s amazing what you can find on the internet! I have to concede that it was Sarah who actually made the first move by asking me out for a drink. And she certainly dressed to impress on the first date. I couldn’t help thinking she was out of my class. Fortunately she didn’t think the same way. We’ve not looked back since that day. I consider myself very privileged that I have a beautiful, intelligent and hard-working wife…. Actually she has a long list of qualities… but I can’t decipher her handwriting!

Thank you to my parents for my upbringing and their continued support over the years. Thankfully the brotherly beatings stopped a long time ago. Thank you both for your help with the wedding also. Amongst other things, Mum made the wedding cake and didn’t she do a fantastic job?

Thanks from Sarah and I must go to our Best Man Brett. One of the reasons I chose him was because he has more grey hairs than me. Seriously, he has known me since we were about 5 years old. And he still can’t beat me at tennis! Thanks for all you’ve done mate.

Mustn’t forget to thank Matt and Mike for taking on their ushering responsibility with such grace and dignity. I think they’ve probably been called many things in the past but grace and dignity aren’t two of them! Thanks guys!

Thanks to the Porthminster Hotel for the reception. This certainly makes an ideal setting for making this day perfect.

Finally, I’d like to thank the 6 lovely Bridesmaids. Don’t they look ‘ansum? They’ve asked me to tell you that if anyone wants to dance with them, then please start forming an orderly queue from around 8 o’clock. Before then though, I’d like to propose a toast to the Bridesmaids so, while you’re able to, could you all stand and raise your glasses : “To the Bridesmaids”

We´re in Gran Canaria. Very hot but cooling winds to boot. Hotel isn´t great for non smokers though! Cough Cough! Fully inclusive so food and drink on tap.

Internet access at 1 euro per 10mins - handy for checking on e-mails that people have sent with wedding pics attached :)

See yáll later ;) :) :p
