I've been working with my high school to arrange some stand music for football games. thus far i've arranged about 9 tunes and wanted to see what everyone thinks about them.

Question.... you've ignored standard instrumentation in several cases. Is that for a specific purpose unique to your situation?

standard instrumentation? what do you mean
Atlas

if you mean that not all the instruments are in every song, thats because in my band we have " Full Band Arrangements" and "Sectionals" the songs that lack some instruments like maybe the piccolo, flute, or tenor, or what ever is considered a sectional. the couple of songs that have all instruments are the full band arrangements. just as well, the midi's arent the best. i didnt use a midi squencer i just used Sibelius 2 to save the sheet music as a midi, thus sometimes the tuba will have every note being played or the french horn, or the trombone. I dont know why it happened but it did. sometimes the clarinet plays both its part and the sax part. again i dont know why. it just does. hope that can clear things up. if it doesnt tell me. by the way, im only 16 and a "soon-to-be" junior in high school. i havent had the honor of taking the adv. music classes like music notation and theory.

that's exactly what I meant :)....
And does sibelius transpose the parts automatically for printing?
Atlas

well... its kinda like that. say that you write every part in Eb major meaning that every instrumet has 3 flats. then you hit a transpose key in the toolbar and it transposes it. so say you have a french horn, a trumpet, and a trombone, a Alto sax, and a Tenor Sax (all written in the Eb major ((not concert))) then you hit the transpose key, the key signature changes from 3 flats to (in order) Atlo - C major, Tenor - F major, Horn - Bb major, Trumpet - F major, and Trombone - Eb major. then you print. if your looking into buying Sibelius I would HIGHLY recommend it. it has a TON of awesome features.

Sibelius sounds terrific!!.... Unfortunately I'm hooked on my old version of Cakewalk......
I assume the flute parts remain in Eflat (meaning that it is the concert key)?
I'm geeky enough to enjoy transposing on the fly..... I mean.. playing the sax parts on the trumpet or the horn parts on the sax.... Clarinet parts on the flute... whatEVer! :) :rolleyes2:... but we all have our thing, huh?

Coolness, but I may not get around to listening until next week...

yeah the flute remains in the Eb. i personally havent learned all the transposing techniques from one instruments to another, so sibelius is my life saver.

sibelius is great for doing this kinda stuff, e-mail me and maybe we can discuss arranging techniques. Do you ever start from a midi file and work from there or is it pure transcription?
