Just in case you haven't ever heard of this browser, I would recommened giving it try.
I've been using it for about 6 months and I really like it's handy popup blocker, and ad-blocking features.

Maybe you should replace the shortcuts to IE with shorcuts to Firefox! That's what I did when I was having the same problem. :D

Yep, I had the same problem too. I had a couple months to completely settle in. You should try the Adblock plugin (http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/adblock) for a few days, and see if you'll ever open IE again!
CyberCat

Yeah, that ad-block extension is actually one of the reasons that made me switch. Once you've got it setup right (which is not hard) you'll never have to look at ads one those sites again. (almost) :D

Yeah, I use Firefox, as well. I adore it. I can't wait until it has some sort of. Active X support, then i'd NEVER need to use IE (Coincidentially, IE is the exact sound of diisgust I utter when I have to open up that browser. . .lol).

If you're gonna use FF, get the mouse gestures to go with it.

I have already tried firefox.. but i feel it a bit slower than IE. besides a belive that its security in the short future will be in more danger than IE since its code is open. there are potentially more ways to get spam, spyware and so on

but i feel it a bit slower than IE.
:jawdrop: how can you say that???
I used to use IE all the time, but now that I've been using Firefox for a while, when ever I have to use IE, I realize just how much slower it is! Just loading Google takes about 6-8 seconds, in Firefox it only takes 1 or less.

There is little chance you are right about that. It sounds as if you're having the case of paranoia many dedicated Micro$oft users feel when they are exposed to Linux product the very first time.
chemiux,
i think you have the open-source idea backwards. when you have a zillion good guys making sure the code is rock-solid, there's less chance for a bad guy to do anything. the good guys make sure there's nothing to exploit.
it's kind of like having a bunch of your best friends watching your back all the time.

To second some things which have been said on the security front...
As others have pointed out, with open source, there are at least as many "good guys" trying to protect us as there may be "bad guys" trying to get us. With "traditional" software, you put your trust fully in a corporate machine. Why am I not convinced that Microsoft execs lie awake at night worrying about the security of my PC?
If the number-of-eyes-on-the-code angle doesn't convince you, look at the numbers argument. Viruses for the Mac have traditionally been less common just because there are fewer people to annoy. If a browser is going to be exploited, it's most likely to be the one which is most used.
As a final thought, you may remember that last summer the US Dept. of Homeland Security suggested dumping Explorer as too insecure. (The more I think about it, the more I think this one cuts both ways. Oh, well.)
I think that Firefox is the way to go.

I agree, have been using it since it was called phoenix. Though, using linux as my only desktop OS for 3 years now, those kind of decisions are easy =D

Good for you mark!
I think you be happy with it, and make sure to download the adblock extension, you'll really like it!
I actually like not having the boxes, I think it looks cleaner without them.

Certain aspects of web browsing are not available when using Firefox (I've used it for quite a while myself) because they pose security risks. I'm certainly considering using Mozilla's email alternative as well. Firefox is a great product and you should at least try it.

Be aware that if anyone is planning to use Thunderbird and they own AVG, they're in for a conflict between the two. They don't accept each other's e-mail scanners at all.

I didnt notice it had pop up blockers. Not having anything pop up since I got it made me forget pop ups existed. Shame it doesnt work with some sites. I like it all the same though.

Here's an interesting tidbit of those thinking about using open source programs and OS. Mac OS X had 3 times as many exploits as Microsoft Windows XP and Mac OS X is open source (unix based) there's scripts that are in Mac OS X where the origin of the script is unknown. Not wanting to hijack this firefox thread. I've tried firefox, it's not very intuitive (shortcuts and all), but having used the internet for 10 years (has it been that long eek!) using IE, it's a hard switch, so I got the next best thing, it's like a skin and a bunch of plugins for IE, but IE recognizes it as a seperate browser, so try Avant Browser for the ones that don't want to switch, there is a popup and ad blocker built in. Oh and nameglows shows.
like cpilot said, the more people who use a product it becomes more attractive to use as a medium to spread viruses and such. Same holds true on what happened on 911 where the WTC is a place where almost 50,000 people go to work everyday, that's like a small city.
I would say go open source if you want peice of mind from all the exploiting windows vulnerability, but if someone wants into you data or information on open source, it would be easy to obtain that data. I wouldn't be surprised if people started to exploit fire fox's vulnerablilities or other open source os like Mac OS X once more people start switching. It's a matter of how much devistation one can cause.

Its prolly slower at first, because its new and there a thing called cookies you know :D
Zandro

...there a thing called cookies you know
There is no speed afflication with cookies. Images are the fattore primario in how long a page takes to load, if not cached already.

Firefox is awesome. I've been using it for a while now....did the same thing replacing the handy built in IE shortcuts with the Firefox one. Even without anything else gotta love the pop-up blocker.
