Yes, it is.
Phew, that was an easy answer.

No, it is not.
It is certainly NOT an easy answer. Search the board please. You'll be surprised with the technical details of such an endeavor.

Zandro is very correct.
Well it's not really something that can be automated with a program, some programs say they can, but the results are very bad.
Had a read over on this thread: MP3 -> MID (http://board.midibuddy.net/t89023.html)

I guess you misread the question. I'm sure you, of all people, know that it's not the right answer :) .

Hi all,
No, I did not misread the question:
He asked:
"is it possible to convert mp3 to midi?"
My anwer:
"Yes, it is"
And I commented:
"That was an easy ANSWER"
I didn't write that it was an easy QUESTION, did I ;-)
I know what it takes to program a good midi file, I've just finished one, and I'll start to program a new one later this day. But if you are a good programmer, it definately is possible to convert any song to a midi file.
Kind regards,
Alain

Methinks you are being a bit disingenuous here. You know, as well as I do, what the question meant - is it possible to electronically convert an MP3 audio file directly to a midi file. You also know that it is not possible to do this, except for some rather simple monophonic files.
Many people ask this question - mainly through a lack of understanding of what such a process involves - and your answer merely served to muddy the waters which the rest of us have been attempting to clear.
I gave you the benefit of the doubt, but it seems you were merely trying to be clever.

it is also theoretically possible to get the moon to crash into the earth, but I don't forsee that happening anytime soon.

 yeah, I would doubt that will be something we'll have to worry about. Thank goodness.
