huh what thread?

re warming up....
depends on:
type of singing you do: rock, pop jazz opera etc.
types of songs you will sing: easily in your range
near the top of your range loud, soft, gentle harsh.

depends on gig.
depends if you use a mike.
depends how long or often you will be singing.

if i am doing a gentle gig somewhere, i dont need to warm up before, as i warm up while singing during my first set.
if i am singing without a mike, i defintely do some warm ups.
breathing more than vocal, to get in touch with diaphram, to prevent straining voice.
if i am singing opera style warm up. do stuff with vocal range and stuff with breathing.
fifteen minutes to half an hour. only you or teacher will know when you are ready.
warming up badly is worse than not warming up at all.
been suggested sing only two hours after woken up, before that voice not fully 'awake'.
if you are gonna sing rock and shout and yell. take valium and pain killers and dont sing for a few weeks after and before the next gig!
dont yell at your kids or spouse, no smoking.
some say no chocolate or milk but each to their own.
hope that answers more than the question asked!
