i like to download midi files and then import them into my sequencing program and "fine-tune" them and then run them through a sound module.

the problem i am encountering is that some midi files import with ease and then others don't... i.e. the sequncing program says "can't read this type of file"

anyone know what that is about?

thanks!

What program are you using? Also, can you link us to one of the files that causes that error message?

Midi comes in 3 formats Midi 0,1,and 2. Format 0 and 1 are the main ones you are trying to put a midi 0 into a program that will only take a midi 1 (or the other way round) you need to change the format of the midi
A free program to do this is MIDI File Converter you can get this at http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/MIDI_File_Converter/
you also need to download a .dll file this is on the page as well.
I think will put it right.

General MIDI sequencers should be able to translate the first two of the standard types. If it doesn't, I question its strength in other aspects.
