How to play karaoke vcd's on a pc...

hi all...

i wanna play my karaoke vcds on my pc. they're in <.dat> format. the pc plays the video and sound. do i need a special software to mute the voice?
when i play the vcd on my hi-fi set, there's a button i press which mutes the volume. is it possible to do it on my pc?

guys, i figured it out after some messing around with my player.
for those interested, u gotta play the .dat files in mono and the vocals will be removed.
