Idea?
I don’t know how many of us actually sequence our own midi files (I have sequenced several personally), but wouldn’t it be cool to get together a group of us here to collaborate on creating some midi files? Passing midi, .wrk (etc) files between us to come up with a cooperative midi file.

I, personally, am a guitar player. My problem in sequencing midis is when it comes to bass, piano, drums, etc – I think and hear like a guitar player… I could have used a pianist or drummer, on occasion, to take over on the respective tracks to make the overall midi sound as good as possible.

Sure, there could be some barriers (like the thousands of different software/hardware configurations used between everyone here), but I think we are all smart and creative enough to work around it and come up with some pretty impressive midi files! I would love to see this happen.

Pipe dream or possibility?
I'd love to hear everyones thoughts on this.

Cool idea! :)

Not sure about an inspiration for a project, though...

any ideas about that?

(people sometimes ignore the coolest threads...)

If there had been more *scribbles out word more*
ANY interest in this thread, I would have used it for help with my 'Forsaken' bass track...
Very lucky for me, I was talking to Dave about it, I sent him my proect file and he started what ended up being the track I'm using now...

It would be great to get a large group of us together to enjoy a little cooperative sequencing!
It can be an original or cover - doesn't matter!

its a good idea but people need insentive.

now if we were getting paid to do it I'm sure it would be a different story.

What about undying gratitude, lifelong indebtedness and the satisfaction of knowing you've contributed to something larger than yourself :D
That's GOT to count for something?
;)

I see your point, but for me it's all about the music.
And ya never know - we might all work on something with someone who hits it big. Royalities would be a nice touch too.

Plugh. Making good music is incentive enough for me, depending on what's being asked of course. I'd love to make a contribution, however minor, to a group (or an individual's) project. I'm not so busy that I can't afford to spend some leisure time doing so.

I think an idea is all that's needed to get started - I'll set my brain a-thinkin', whaddaya say, Art?

I think It's a great Idea......

The rules would be fairly simple....
we work in an easily revcoverable format (like a cakewalk .wrk file)

All Initial patches etc are GM based on Midiport 1
All drums use default GM maps.

that way at least everyone can read/use the same files and it won't sound too different when going from PC to PC

How's that for starters?

Sounds good - are WRK files compatible across versions? (Since I'm a cheapskate version 6 holdout...)
