I'm just getting started in playing afro-cuban music can anybody give me some insight into what books or CD's I might consult, being a very white guys trying to play afro-cuban percussion. Thank you!

Check out ChuckSilverman.com...I think that's the site. If not, just do a Google search. You'll find something about him. He does a lot of afro-cuban 6/8 kinda stuff. Hope that helps.

Cuban Rhythms are very nice....I LOVE the nanigo, though it's more basic. Latin rhythms and such are also very helpful in cooridination.

Yeah definately check out the Silverman stuff, but first get "Funkyfiing the clave" by Robbie Ameen and Lincoln Goines. There's a great audio cd that comes with the book that is very helpful. It's all about the phrasing!
