Default .SNG file conversion

I posted this earlier on another board but got no reaction, so I'll try here and give a lot more details. I normally answer my own computer related probs but this is a bit too specialised...

I have a stack of floppy diskettes which were created for (and maybe on) a Roland keyboard. They are in FAT format so they can be accessed via Windows no problem.

The contents are several music files along with index/database files. e.g.

CONFIG.TNB
CONFIG2.MRP
DUMMY
MC500DIR.TNB
TNB00000.SNG
TNB00001.SNG
.
.
TNB00019.SNG
TNB00020.SNG

The .SNG files are small and I'm sure they are Rolands Corps version of MIDI files. I want to convert them, but how?.

Surely someone knows some software to convert MIDI files to and from this format.

HELP!

Cool Re: .SNG file conversion

These might be MC50 or MC500 files. If so, there is a program that converts them, but you'd need an MC500 to run it...

I am a software developer..... If there's no PC program available for converting, I could write one...... BUT!!!!!! I need to know the format of the MC50 or MC500 files.......

Anyone have access to a file format specification???

I used a voyetra dos based sequencer in the 90s called sequencer plus. This created files with the type sng.
SP has a function for exporting the songs in midi format. I used this when I was coinverting my stuff to cakewalk.
I hope that is of some help

I had the same problem converting midi files from a MC50 to *.mid format. I ended up playing from the MC50 and recording to my pc and then saving the file as a midi.

I've never seen software to convert .sng files but if they made them then there must be a program that reads that type of file.
Try contacting roland tech support via e-mail.

There is a company that produces MIDI format conversion software (http://giebler.com). I haven't bought any product from them and haven't tested the MC-50/SMF format conversion software (I also have a lot of MC-50's files waiting for conversion).
I plan to buy this software soon.

Yes, the .sng files ARE the songs and Roland did a dedicated program for converting SMF to SNG and SNG to SMF (Standard Midi File).

Came across this site (not mine) and thought it would help everyone out on the topic of the MC-500 manuals and software issues.

Cheers to all and I hope that helps out MC-500 manuls and programs

I recently converted all my .SNG files to MID with Voyetra's DOS-based Seq Gold. You can find a free copy at their FTP site.

ftp://ftp.voyetra.com/pub/voy/seqplus/seq_gold.zip

Default Voyetra SNG conversion

Komfou,

I am having real trouble installing Voyetra Sequencer Plus Gold on any of my machines both with and without DOSBox.

Do you think there is any chance that you could either convert a dozen SNG files for me or, if that is too big a pain, email me a copy of the executable for the sequencer so I can try bypassing the install procedure?

Thanks,

Ken

Default Voyetra SNG to MID

This is fully tested with Fruity Loops and will probably work with the other major sequencing apps. I can't suggest where to get Voyetra Sequencer Plus Gold as the FTP site prompted me for a login I didn't have.

When installing Voyetra, set the compatibility to Win95, Memory to separate and AUTO then run.
Don't select any drivers because it won't understand any of the new ones.
Got to DOS and launch the program from where you installed it. (C:\voyetra\spg.exe)
Watch it start and run as normal.
In order to CONVERT, open the original SNG file then change the MODE to MID.
Now you can save and it will save as a MIDI file.

Hope that helps guys! GL
